partitions
A few questions before i start installing mandrake 9.1
#1 My system already has win 98se on it taking up the whole 30 g drive.Do the mandrake install disks have a partitioning utility onboard so i do not have to delete the win 98 to resize the partition ?

#2Since the 98 is a fat 32 and the linux will probably be ext3 what type of partition should I make to have a common partition for both os to be able to access it ?

I'm not sure about the Mandrake 9.1 installation, as I haven't seen it yet. However, I believe it will allow you to re-partition/re-size before you install. Partition Magic also has this capability.

Linux can access a FAT32 partition with no problem (including your existing Windoze partition and any extended partitions). Windoze 98, OTOH, pretty much only knows about FAT partitions (FAT16, FAT32), so if you really want both O/Ses to have access to the same partition, then FAT is probably your only choice (FAT32 recommended).

Hope this helps.

Mandrake will give you the option to resize fat32 partitions during install.
This screenshot is for MDK 9.0 but it's got the same options as 9.1 except 9.1 can now non-destructively resize ntfs partitions, also.Click on the arrows at the top right corner to see more screenshots.
Anyway, when you get to the partitioning section of install, this is what you'll see.
