Help with Mandrake 9.1
I installed Mandrake 9.1 on my computer this weekend. Totally removed Windows and am only using Mandrake.

I installed Yahoo Messenger. This file right here from the site :
ymessenger-0.99.19-1mdk.i586.rpm.

When I type messages to other Yahoo messenger users. Sometimes I can see what I type and other times it shows up as either . (a period) or - (a hyphen).

I can not see what they type at all those messages always show up as either a period or a hyphen.

I have tried removing the program package, and reinstalling the program package but have not been able to repair the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Cynthia

Sounds like a font problem-perhaps try changing fonts?
Try gaim-it's probably installed on your computer and it is compatible with all the popular msg clients. If not ,go to Kstart>Configuration>Packaging>Install Software and,in rpmdrake, open the Workstation menu, then the Internet Station menu, and select gaim by checking the box and hitting Install.

Did you add the account for Yahoo.Try tools>accounts and add it from there?
Here's somthing I copied from the gaim FAQ:
Quote:
In Gaim 0.60 and higher, use the Account Editor (Tools->Accounts, or the Accounts button on the start screen) to add the account. The appropriate protocol plugin is loaded automatically.

In Gaim 0.59 and lower, you must first load the protocol plugin for the protocol that you want to use. These plugins come with Gaim, so just go to the Plugins dialog (Tools->Plugins, or the Plugins button on the start screen). The list of plugins on this screen is a listing of plugins you have already loaded and does not included unloaded but available plugins. To load a new plugin, click "Load." The protocol plugins are named libprotocol .so, so MSN for instance is provided by libmsn.so, and Gadu-Gadu is provided by libgg.so. Now you can use the Account Editor to add an account with the desired protocol.

Lynch ,

Thank you for your assistance. I finally got my MSN , Yahoo, AIM and Icq all working now . I a trillian user, because I hate excess windows. So the Gaim was something I really wanted to use. I did get the yahoo working by the way, I figured out the person typing to me has to use a True Type Font. but that's besides the point

I now have all my accounts in Gaim .059 and I like it better.

Thank you

Cynthia.

P.S. Do you know how if there are any pop-up killers for Mandrake 9.1?
