Help newbie trying 2 install mandrake 9.0
Hello every one,

I am having difficulity installing mandrake 9.0 (3 cd set)

My PC is a P3 933, 512 sd ram, and i have a dodgy motherboard which has sound, lan, video, modem all on board. It is a pcchips M754LMR (i think all will work with mandrake excpt maybe the on board Pctel HSP56 micromodem?)

I am running windows 2000 on a 16 gig NTFS partition.
I also have a 3 gig NTFS partition and a 1.6 gig NTfS hard disk, which i plan to partition to have a 1 gig swap drive and a 600 mb storage drive. Will it be easy to do once i get mandrake installation running?

Anyway the real problem is that i cannot get to installation procces started. I cant boot from CD, i have tried to install from windows2000 (mandrake comes up with a screen and says install mandrake, so i click that and it says must restart, so i restart but it juts boots Windows).

So i thought to easy i will boot from disk, i made the CD image using rawwrite. THen i boot from disk and i get an error "Boot failed: chage disks and press any key to continue", so i made 2 different copies of the CD image, and tried them all, but no go.

Please help, i really want to get into Linux,

Thanking you very much

I think it could be the CDs.

Where did you get the CDs?
If it's a boxed set, exchange it for another.
If someone made the CDs for you, they could be burned wrong.
If you downloaded them yourself, did you also download the md5sums and check them against the iso images?
Mandrake 9.0 should support your hardware except maybe the modem.

I got the 3 cd pack from the Newsagent. They came with a book called Operating in Linux. Your complete guide to the alternative OS.

So the CDs should be fine
