I have a dimension 2300 series. I have an onboard Intel 82845 GL video adapter. I need to know how I can physically disable this card or via updated bios or some other method. I need to install a dual boot of Red Hat Linux 9.0 on this system. When I start the installation, the installation finds 6 usb ports and then says 2 usb ports found and locks up. So if I disable usb legacy support it seems to work. I don't know if that the right way to do it but I seem to be able to bypass this problem. I've tried GUI and text installations with no success. I've also tried the noprobe setting but I seem to get the same results. Ok from the beginning. I choose one of the 3 I mentioned. It asks me if I want to do a cd-rom drive test. I proceed with it or I opt not to do so but the results seem to be the same either way. Ok now it probes for my video card and lcd display. According to tech support and some documentation I have the Intel 82845 or Intel 845 onboard adapter. For the lcd I have a Samsung Syncmaster 151v. The pc immediately locks up after it probes for these two options. Well I don't seem to be able to bypass it so it's not really an option for me. Does anyone know how I can bypass this? I got a PCI video card: ATI Radeon 7500 64mb pci card. With Redhat 8.0 everything works fine with the radeon card. With 9.0 it seems to be worse. I don't get why it probes for the onboard only. Any suggestions or doable comments would be greatly appreciated.
