boot menu
Hi , Im running a triple boot system (mandrake 9.1 , 98 se and xp home ). What I want to achieve is a to be able to configure the boot menu.
When I start the box the linux boot menu comes up and looks like this ; Linux
Failsafe
Windows
Windows
Floppy
If I select the first entry on windows I the get the xp boot menu which is set as this : windows xp home
windows 98 se

Here iswhere the work comes in . I would like to config the linux boot menu to list windows as the default menu so that xp will be the default system on stsrtup.

Unless you chose otherwise during the Mandrake 9.1 installation,you should be using lilo.
To change the default OS you need to open a text editor as root and edit the /etc/lilo.conf file.
You can login as root by opening a terminal and su to root or login as root from the GUI login page.
In the lilo.conf file you need to change the label in the default= line:
Code:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
lba32
default=linux
In your case,change it from "linux" to "windows".
What do you get when selecting the second "windows" entry from the boot menu?
Not sure how you would change the XP menu to go straight to XP.That's a Windows boot.ini thing.

Did you ever get to boot into XP? You, no doubt, have Mandrake on your Hard Drive?

I just started running Knoppix from a CD, and I just learned that it really isn't meant to put on your hard drive. But it sure is nice to have something different than Windows.

Oh, okay. Hmmmmm. Why don't you ask that question on the xp board? Maybe somebody can give you the directions there.

The reason I asked the question in the linux board is because the issue was with the linux boot menu (lilo).This boot menu comes up first and by default will boot linux unless you select otherwise.I had to get it configured to boot windows by default so that it would take me to the xp boot manager which contains xp and 98.
