Setting up the java SDK
Hey,

I just installed the java sdk on redhat 9.0 but bash isn't recognizing the commands 'java' and 'javac'. I tried adding the java bin directory to my path in .bash_profile like this:

PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2/bin
export PATH

but it didn't work

Any tips guys?

You dont say what type of package you used:self-extracting binary or rpm?
When I installed the java-plugin,I used the blackdown version,and the instructions said to set the path like this:
export PATH=/usr/local/j2re1.4.1/bin:4PATH (This is just an example )
I looked at the instructions for SDK but I saw no reference to setting the PATH= .
Let us know what package and give a link to the instructions.There is a lot of Java out there

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

I chose the RPM in self extracting file from this list.

The instructions are here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-linux.html

I'm sure I installed it correctly since java IDE's like netbeans and the such can use it fine. But as everyone knows most of these are slow and cumbersome. So it would be nice to have the command line stuff.

Thanx as always,
