Linux permanently attached!
I'm building a computer to run mandrake linux.Since I don't yet have all the parts, I decided to put my HD for linux in my WinXP machine and go ahead and install linux. So then i got Linux running, and I decided to take the drive out. When, it's out I can't boot to windows. The linux drive, when it is in, runs as slave. Even though it is slave, Linux boots but gives me the option to choose windows. That is the only way I can get Windows to run.

I've tried chaning my bios settings, I've even reset the bios to defaults. It still doesn't work. I take the drive out, and right before my computer chooses the boot medium it gives me "10 10 10" over and over and then it asks for a boot disk.

Can anyone help me?

Do you know which boot manager you are using?
LILO?
GRUB?

My problem seems similar to the one mentioned in this thread. But I don't just want windows to boot first, I want to remove the linux drive.

I reinstalled Mandrake. I chose LILO as my bootloader. Now I have anotther problem - I told it to boot windows by default in the install screen. Now it doesn't boot to windows, it gives mea n error when trying to boot to windows.

OK, I figured it out. I put in my Windows disk, and got into that setup thing. I didn't really know what I was doing, but I got it to rewrite my Master Boot Record. All is well now.

Is "fdisk /mbr" done in the Command Window? Because it doesn't work for me?

You have to do it from DOS Mode. Its probably different in XP without pure DOS mode though.
