Help for a Linux Noob
Hello, I just installed Linux Mandrake today, and everything was working fine. Now when I start it up the screen goes black and asks me (liek the command prompt) for my usr name and pass word. I type them in, it then brings up a command line. How do I get it to go straight into the shell. I was using Gnome.
Thanks in advance

Hi bLaZ3r! You say everything was working fine. Did you have GUI-a graphic interface? The command line you are seeing is the shell prompt. Have you tried typing the command startx ? <br> If you could give a bit more info it will help find a solution

If you feel comfortable editing system files you can open /etc/inittab and change the line:
id:3:initdefault:
to read:
id:5:initdefault:
That will save you the trouble of typing
startx
every time. You'll be sent to a GUI login screen.
