Sound issue [Mandrake 9.1]
I've finally decided to give linux a whirl; unexplainable crashes/unstability/headaches/fustrations with Windoze Me the deciding factor. I'm am completely in awe, yet a bit lost in the dark when it comes to making the adaptation . I have successfully set up a dual boot(lilo) with Me and everything seems to be in good running order. However, as I am browsing, any site that would normally exhibit sound with IE will not play in Konqueror. During the initial installation, the sound device(on-board) was detected and initiallized correctly, if I may presume correctly.

Vendor: ?Intel Corporation
Alternative drivers: ?snd-intel8x0
Bus: ?PCI
Bus identification: ?8086:2415:109f:7140
Location on the bus: ?0:1f:5
Description: ?82801AA 810 Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: ?i810_audio
Media class: ?MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO

The configuration states that my sound card is using the OSS "i810_audio" driver (default driver for my card is "i810)

How can I configure it so that I get sound when I am browsing/online?

Please have some patience for I have just entered the free world and starting to learn the massive amount of knowledge you all have accumilated .

TIA

do you have sound ie,playing CDs or system sounds like when KDE is starting?
I dont like using konqueror for web browsing but it is a useable file manager.
Give mozilla a try.I get sound okay with it.

Hey lynch,

sorry this is a prolonged reply, but definately thank you for yours

During start up and logging off, there is definately sound. I tried browsing with mozilla, opera and gnome's browser(forgot the name) but sound is still to no avail. Now, I know you savvy experts know of a way to resolve my sound issue, but since I have just started using linux, I'm not going to expect to have my hand held...maybe just point a finger in the right direction?
