You might have a look at http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/winoncdrwin.html for step-by-step instructions for burning a CD from a .iso image file. This is a great site for downloading many different Linux distributions. Also, the info on md5sums may also be helpful, since it will allow you to verify that your image is correct before you burn it to CD. Finally, you should verify that you are staying within the limits of the media when you burn (try burning at a slower speed if you have a known good .iso image). Unfortunately, a lot of the cheap media available is prone to data errors; these aren't so bad on a music CD, but if the error happens to occur in the superblock of a Linux filesystem, the results are unpredictable at best.

Hope this helps.
