I cnan't install mandrake, HELP!!!
Hello, I'm a newbie to the linux OS so that may explain my isssues with it, but here my prob. I DLed the Mandrake Linux zip files, unzipped them and burned them to a cd, and when I try to boot from cd it didn't work(yes my PC it has the option to boot from cd and I went to the BIOS and enabled that option)
Then I made a bootable floppy using rawwritewin.exe, and when I boot with it the mandrake install screen comes up but when I press enter it loads for a few secs then tells me the boot disk is bad and tells me to insert the correct one and press any key to continue so I rebooted and tried numerous times with no luck.
So then I tried making a new boot disk, using the hd.img instead of the cdrom.img on the boot floppy disk thinking I could boot from the harddrive instead of CDrom, and no that did not work either.
So what am I doing wrong? Are the Linux boot cd's that I burned bad? Should I make new copies of the Cd's? Do I have to reformat my HD to install it? Pleas HELP!!!

There's no need to "unzip" any files. Did you d/l the .iso files? You need to burn the .iso as an image file to make it bootable. I suggest you re- download the .isos, there should be three for mdk, here:

http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=29

(I'll give you a little tip. When you click on the download link(red cd) and your download starts, check the speed and time estimated. If the download is going to take over approx. an hour, cancel the download and repeat the download. You will be directed to another mirror. Check again, and repeat if necessary to download at the optimal rate.)

Here is a link to help you burn the cds:

Also, you should verify the iso image(s) by checking the md5sum.
