telephone connect backup
i was wondering if someone could point me in the correct direction, i'm using rh9 and currently everyone is connecting to the internet via rh9, the connection type is cable modem. sometimes the cable modem people go down for hours, i would like to know how to continue shareing the internet connection but though a telephone line. i have an external modem connected to the computer but i don't know how to change the firewall settings or how to get the server to dial up and connect to the other isp, or how to change the ip masqueraing. i think this is a pretty involved subject and if someone could direct me to the proper how-to that would be good enough for me, for now.

Not knowing how you're set up I'll tell you what I did in my dialup days
All my comps had modems so that made things easier:I just daisy-chained the modems together and set each one up using kppp or kinternet. Is what you want is to share your server's connection with the lan sorta like ICS?
Check out this IP Masq howto .

hmm okay, read up on ip masq. seems to me that what i need to do is setup ppp so that it works. after that i need to create a copy of my rc.firewall file, maybe name the copied file rc.firewall.dialup, change one line in the rc.firewall.dialup file from EXTIF = "eth0" to EXTIF = "ppp0". from then on if i need to change over to dial up all i have to do is run in termial mode rc.firewall.dialup and start pppd. I'm sure theirs alot more to it, but this looks like a good starting point. do you agree.
