Sound trouble in Mandrake 9.1
Hi! as the subject says, I'm having sound trouble in mandrake 9.1. That is, it doesn't work.

Sound card: ASOUND ALS4000

When Mandrake installed, it picked the Avance Logic ALS4000 driver. Unfortunately, that's not the card I have, and so the card doesn't work. I looked all over the net for a generic driver for my computer, but couldn't find anything. So, I was wondering if someone here could help me.

I just got started with linux yesterday (which has worked pretty well up to this point ) and this seems to be the only problem that I can't figure out... I had a network problem earlier, but I fixed that somehow...

Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Be sure to open a mixer(kmix, aumix etc)and check the levels:they are turned down by default.

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

Hope it helps

Have you tried opening a terminal and typing "su" for root and then typing " sndconfig" to see what it says,If you get no such file then install sndconfig from your disks and run it again.
