Console Colors
Does anyone know what file controls the colors used on the system console?

Green = Executable File
Blue = Directory.
etc.....

Running RedHat 9

Nevermind I found it.

/etc/DIR_COLORS

But what I really wanted to do was set the prompt to a different color as well. System wide for all users.

you can also specify the directory colors by use of the PS2 variable in your login script..
where PS1 will set your prompt

ie. Here's mine.. it wont work since you dont have the rest of my script but you will get the jist of it..

PS1="$COLOR3$COLOR1$COLOR2--($COLOR1\u$COLOR3@$COLOR1\h$COLOR2)$COLOR2=($COLOR1\#$COLOR3|$COLOR1$GRAD1$ COLOR2)=$COLOR2($COLOR1\$(date+%H:%M)$COLOR3|$COLOR1\$(date+%m/%d/%Y)$COLOR2)--$COLOR1$COLOR3$COLOR4\n$COLOR3$COLOR1$COLOR2($COLOR1\$$COLOR3:$COLOR1\w$COL OR2)$COLOR1$COLOR2=>$COLOR4"

PS2="$COLOR2$COLOR1$COLOR3-$COLOR4 "

where earlier i declaired COLOR1.....etc... to certain Ansi codes.

i wish i could remember but there's a way to display what your current ones are set to.. it's been a long time since i've played with this and that has ended up leaving my brain.. or it could be the imense hangover i have right now..
