Thinking about Linux have a few questions
I have a fairly nice computer and I've been thinking about making a second boot option for linux. Before doing so I have a few questions.

1. Have the created video support for linux? Can I watch DVDs, DivX, XVid,... movies?
2. Is linux still limited to 24bit color or do some distros support 32bit?
3. Would I be able to read files off of my Windows XP Partition(NTFS).
4. Would I be able to use my DVD Burner, is there software to support that.
5. Which Distro would be best for a programmer(need compilers) who also enjoys working with graphics, animation, and video?

My system specs:
Pentium IV 2.2Ghz
1 Gig of RAM
120GB Hard Drive
80GB FireWire Hard Drive
32MB Graphics card
CD-RW
DVD-RW
USB Zip Drive

1. Yes to all
2. I believe linux supports 32bit resolutions.
3. Reading is not a problem, I think writing is still kinda iffy.
4. DVDrecord will work.
5. You can get gcc (a c compiler) for any distro and python is native.

And there are plenty of file sharing apps that use the gnutella and the kazaa network.
