New to Linux/big frustraions
I just installed Red Hat Linux 8. I heard it was a snap.
First I got a error 25: disk read error when booting. If I select DOS I keep getting error 25. I then select Linux and it starts the booting process. The booting hangs up for about 2 minutes (I timed it) at the line BRINGING UP INTERFACE eth0: .
The boot then continures with SYSTEM LOGGER [failed]

The login screen comes on and I enter my login name and password. It doesn't like them so I try again. It never works, so I end up loging in as root and get to the main screen. I go to useradd and try to enter a login name and password, my login is already in use, but I can't access that account. The first time I logged in I did finally get to my account, but not since then.

The first two times I logged on I was able to go on the web. Now I can't get on the web nor send or receive email. Help!

Well, first off the problem with eth0, is probably that its trying to get its Ip via DHCP but for some reason its not working.

I dont know about that disk error, and even less about why its says that system logger failed.

The internet problem is probably related to eth0, and i'd try reading the man page on ipconfig, and dhclient.

man ipconfig, and man dhclient.

R.Lynn,I think at this point you might want describe the system you installed Redhat 8 on. If you have checked to be sure your installation CDs are'nt corrupted, then it must be a hardware issue.Go to Red hats web site and look up your parts in thier hardware compatibility database.
