kernel panic after kernel 2.4.22 upgrade in RH9
Well, I compiled and installed the 2.4.22 kernel fo RH9 and at boot up I get these errors:

ds: no socket drivers loaded
VFS: cannot open root device "LABEL=1" or 0:00
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
kernel panic: VFS unable to mount root fs on 0:00

Does anyone know whats going on here? I'm just a n00b so I'm pretty much lost on a lot of linux related questions and solutions. Thanks.

When you compiled the new kernel, did you revamp your bootloader to run the new kernel?

2.4.22 linux redhat 9.0 kernel
I have the same problem as another member. I installed a new kernel (2.4.22) from a system running a 2.4.20 kernel. Everything compiled fine but when I reboot, I get the following:

Please append a correct "root=" boot option
kernel panic: VFS unable to mount root fs on 0:00

However, my lilo.conf file does contain root="img file". What am I doing wrong?
