Cool Upgrade RH 7.2 to 9 without boot disk
I downloaded Red hat 9 and made the three disks, the laptop I am trying to upgrade does not support booting from a CD and the boot disk I made from the 1st disk image directory does not reconize the CD's. I can browse the Cd's with no problem. Is there a way I can run a command on the CD to start the install?

I tell you what. If you can get the upgrade to work I will be very impressed. I tried several times to upgrade RH 7.2 to RH 9 and I kept getting errors. I did a little research on it and I believe I ended up finding a link on Red Hat that there was issues with it. I ended up having to do a clean install.

As far as recognizing the cd's, did you double check the md5 sums. Is it possible you can test the cd's on someone elses machine just to see if you can get to the installs boot prompt.

I also would not recommend running RH 9 on an older computer if you are planning on using a GUI.

I found that the problem was not related to what I was trying to do but I decided to download the image files from another source and found instruction on what to name the CD's- I named then RH 1 and Red_Hat1 but they were suppose to be named CD1 after naming them this way the boot disk recognized them. But because of disk space I did a clean install.
