Shoot it seems to be endlessly continuing to ping. How do I get out of that loop?

Control - C will stop the ping.

You dont need to logon as root. You should just be able to do the su command to become root.

Ok, re-ran ifconfig eth0 up and got much more info.
I don't want to try the ping again until I know how to end it in case I get in a loop again.

I heard the floppy power up.
I re-ran the output attempt:
No such file or directory.

Can you ping the localhost

ping localhost or ping 127.0.0.1

Are you sure the cable is good? Have you tried a different one?

Are you sure the port on the router is good? Did you try plugging the cable into a different port on the router?

Is there a connectivity light on, on the nic?

Are you sure the cable is good? Have you tried a different one? It worked before and I have switched the port on the router.
I show lights on ports 1 and 4 and only 2 PCs running right now.

Are you sure the port on the router is good? Did you try plugging the cable into a different port on the router? Oh yeah, yes again

Is there a connectivity light on, on the nic? Yes
Also just rechecked cables. Fine
NIC is lit.
Re-pinged local host. 100% loss

I tried this from my old Linux notes
fsck -t ext2 /dev/fd0 to check the floppy. It said not found and recommended I try something like.

e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

Does that make sense to you?

my devices seem to have an ext3 rather than (I assume) the normal ext2. Is this of any help on any of this?
