You did things exactly right by locating and downloading the package, but there's an easier way. For the complete story, give the command: man CPAN at the command line to read the manual page on CPAN. You'll probably want to use the perl CPAN interface as it handles dependencies gracefully and largely automates the locate, download, compile and install process.

The short story: you can use the perl CPAN interface interactively to install perl modules. Start by becoming root and give the command: perl -MCPAN -e shell
at the command line. You will now be in interactive mode. You can get help by giving the command: h when you see the perl CPAN prompt.

You'll probably want to give the command: make HTTP::Request (note: capitalization/case is significant) which should take care of everything. You may be asked if you'd like to install any dependencies (say yes) and I think you will need the lynx browser installed on your system (this is a text-mode browser).

Hope this helps.

Most anything you want is on the SuSE CDs. I would look there before I downloaded somthing from the internet.

After you accessed CPAN and gave the command make HTTP::Request, you probably retrieved and built several modules. If everything went OK, you should give the command install HTTP::Request when you are in the interactive mode. You can still do this (since you've already made everything); as root, just go back to the interactive mode (perl -MCPAN -e shell) and try install HTTP::Request and see if that fixes things.

Sorry I didn't point this out earlier. BTW, you can also give the command install module-name to retrieve all modules and dependencies, build them and install them all in one go.

Hope this helps.
