Unhappy Linux Wont install on my system!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I have been trying to install Linux on my system for last 3 days and it won't even install even once.
My system specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
512 MB DDR333 RAM
and two hard disk
1. 20GB Samsung(Primary Master)
2. 80GB Seagate(Primary Slave)

I want to install linux on my 80 GB HDD.I created extended partition on it using FDISK and only 80%space.The rest 20% is meant to be for Linux.

I tried RedHat Linux and PCQLinux(based on Red Hat). Both of them gave me the following error after the parttioning stage:
"Your \boot parttion is not appropriate for your configuration"
I press "Continue".At the time of installing applications there is one more error saying that you have run out of disk space or media is bad ........."

I have tried various distros of linux RH9.1,Mandrake9.0 and PCQLinux.
All of them gave me error about the partition and RH & PCQ gave me error at the time of installing apps.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Sorry for being late to reply.

Actually my first HDD 20GB is almost full.It has four partitions with 2 partitions for Win98 and WinXP.

I really do not want to shift the data right now, but if just creating a partition for \boot will solve the problem then I can give it a try.

But just as another question,Is is necessary for the operating systems to be on Primary Master HDD ?Just out of inquisitiveness

I, personally wouldnt know. I would think it depends on the boot order in the bios.

i believe that you should be able to load linux on the slave drive without problem...just designate the appropiate mount points on it.....it most likely is hdb1....(hda1 is usually your primary drive)

using a boot manager all you should have to do is tell it where the /boot image is....but i leave it ot more experienced members to correct me if i am wrong...

I agree with tonya, err utanja, a boot manager (eg. LILO, GRUB) should be all that you need.. when your installing the distro, installing the boot manager of your choice to the MBR should work..
