I re-compiled kdevelop as root, followed all the instructions I could find, and etc and etc...
Now when I compile a c++ program with nothing in it, here is what I get:

aclocal.m4:3009: your implementation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE comes from an
aclocal.m4:3009: old Automake version. You should recreate aclocal.m4
aclocal.m4:3009: with aclocal and run automake again.

Do you know how to recreate the aclocal.m4? I don't know what it is talking about...

No, I don't know how to update the automake.
And, I don't know what you mean about binary package.
I am compleately new at Linux and kdevelop. I want to
learn more about programing, and was thinking that Linux
and kdevelop was the best platform to start with.

Ok, the default Kdevelop that comes with your distro is a binary. Auto make will also be a package. What distro are you using?

I'm using RH 9.0 with a full install, but I have downloaded the latest Qt package and installed it. And keep in mind, "I don't know what I'm doing yet!". Be patient...

DOnwload the latest automake, and kdevelop one as well. That should get you up and running.
