"linux mediacheck" failed. Did Nero screw up? I still have Knoppix so can I use "k3b" for this? (I have never used it before)

Sounds like it could be either a download error, or a burn error. Check the md5s, then try reburning (I hope you are using RWs.)

Yeah I did the md5 like I said in my last post. I reburned it but it didn't help. It still stops at the very same thing - NSuite. And I don't have RWs but I have a lot of CD-Rs and I really don't use them for anything else.

1st thing to try... make sure you DONT install Nsuite. I dont know how to manage that, but thats the first thing to try. Second, is try burning a disc (RW if you can... save the environment!), at like 1 or 3x. Previous experiance has told me that rh cds do not like to be burned quickly.

Other than that, i cant think of anything. Is it possible to do an absolute minimum install?

The choices I get are Gnome, KDE, Development, and Entertainment. I can select the ones I want. I tried keeping Development unselected because the description for NSuite was something about Python, but it still tried to install NSuite.

Ah... actually there is a choice earlier in the installer for "custom". I chose that and then it gave me more control over what I install later on. I unselected 4Suite (it was 4Suite, not NSuite actually). I didn't get any other errors, but now it wants the second disc. There doesn't seem to be a way to say you don't want to use the second disc so do I need it to get Red Hat working? I don't want to do another big download if I don't have to.

Python would be included in the development package as it's a programming language.

Seems that the guys messed up something with the booter of RH9, because the message of TazG I saw posted on other forums by other people.
OK I'm really new at this. I can't figure out how to do this. I put in the Red Hat 9 CD and went to the Red Hat/RPMS directory, but I don't know which ones I have to install. With the Red Hat installer it was easy because it was grouped and had descriptions... can I get the Red Hat 9 install interface running in 7.3 and use it to upgrade?

Yes that's exactly what I always did.
Instead of a fresh install, I select 'packages upgrade" and it works.

And you must take care to have enough space for the upgrade (approx. 1 Giga).
Anyway minimal install (strictly necesary packages, ignoring dependencies) is also allowed.

Good luck.

But how do I run the RedHat 9 installer from 7.3? I tried "autorun" on the CD but it didn't work.

The first CD of the RH is bootable; if you burn your iso you must take care of that.
Before starting the procedure, take to modify in BIOS the option "First bootable device - CD" and after, instead of choosing the option 'install", you choose "upgrade".
