hmm we can start a new list.

Plus:
its free, most everything developed for it is free (mostly some distro's arn't and stuff like wineX isnt)
You have a wide selection of distro's to choose from that is tailored to you
you can look at the source and see exactly what it does
its a os where you get satisfaction for fixing issues etc. unlike windows most of the time.

Minus
RTFM is something that is suggested, since a lot of times the answer is in a man page but we still help and will point out how
You go back to being a new computer user.
It can be frusterating

I'm with tsunam on this one. 99% of distros are free. Infact, some brag about being 100% free (debian). Most distros give you acess to thousands of packages of free software. Sometimes it can be as easy as one command to install a program. For free. In linux you get to know your computer: It's strengths, weaknesses, quirks. You are computing now... not just "word processing" or "web surfing"

that sounds like a geek song whiteskin

You are elite, the one, the few, the linux users.
Figuring out how to make it work,
not just watching it do it itself
You debug and learn your system now
You are computing with power now
not just surfing for the porn

I appoligize for the above if anyone doesn't find it sarcastic and humorous
