Hi, I am using RH9.

I have been able to complie and install XMMS, a winamp like player for Linux in hopes to play movies like avi and mpeg. I have found how to tweak this nice program to play mp3's on Redhat. I must install a few patches in order to get movie files to play. One such pach is called "avifile.patch" for the XMMS ( http://www.xmms.org/ ) player.

Does anyone know how to apply a patch to a already compiled and installed program?

Or best yet, can anyone suggest a good movie player that will work with Redhat?

If you are using kde, there's a version of mplayer called Kplayer that supossedly ties into the kde enviroment a bit better.

You cannot really patch a precompiled program.

mods please mark this post solved. Installing Mplayer did the trick........dvd's, mp3's, divx avi's, mpeg's, wmf's, ogg's all work using this app.
