Arrow new installation , ip , no surf
I installed mandrake 8.1 on my computer on a seperate drive wich went well. I have a LAN connection (cable modem) & the O/S can see the IP.
Apparently it refuses to allow me to surf. When I hit connect I get a message asking me to check the control panel configuration. What should I do?

I notice there are several dhcp options (3 of them) , I tried each one but none of them work including (dhcpclient).

Bear in mind I can surf under windows after switching to the O/S on my other hdd

One thing I must also mention is that I have another nic. If relevent please let me know. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

do a dmesg for us and give us the printout of the nic card if it appears

8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.27
eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xd800, 00:c0:f0:54:20:31, IRQ 9
eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139B'

Lots should appear, but you should see something like that above. If not we can work on that...if it does then we can work on that as well..If it appears try from a console a dhcpcd eth0. Also you can do a ifconfig and it will give you a readout about your connected ethernet cards if they are recognized.

Lightbulb Fixed, but now what?
Very wierd , but I physically removed my pci network everywhere card and was able to connect with no problems. At this point it would be nice to know why this occured so that I can get both to work on the pc under Linux.

As far as I'm concerned the configuration was correct but this should have not occured especially considering the external card was disabled.
