Red Hat 9 Stalling on bootup
Ok, well I thought I was making progress here. I installled and got my system up2date. and installed a couple more packages for Mplayer and added java and a bunch of other stuff and I was trying to get a program to work, but it wasnt recognizing that a package was already installed so i decided to reboot. but during the reboot it keeps stalling when it is trying to start the SMTP (Send Mail) protocol. It also barks on 10 or so lines about how the NIS server isnt correct. I was messing around with that, but i had booted up fine once before after changing that.

Please tell me there is some way I can fix this. I really don't want to have to do another install and risk XF86 not working again and then 40 more minutes for the up2date and then even more time for packages that i didnt get a chance to move to my backup disk.

You can try running the installation CD#1 as a rescue disk and disable the smtp and NIS services at boot. That will most likely get the boot to complete.
I'm sorry if this is a short reply but I'll look into the procedure for this if I get time today and post back. You can experiment in the meantime. j/k
