Use Knoppix,(hope you have it) and do fdisk -l and write it down and edit /etc/fstab,I use mc because it is easy,if you don't have knoppix just use another live dist.I always keep knoppix around it has saved me a few times when I do a woops!

Things are find now. Unfortunately I had to reinstall mandrake. but I managed to add some development programs i've been trying to find for a while. So that's fine. One bad thing though, I need to configured intel pro/wireless card. ill write back when done. ~Mike

I just finished with centrino. Now I am trying to find a way to cool this laptop down. Feels very hot compared to windows. want cpuspeedy, but get an error when trying to install. here is error..but ill make a new post If i need to:

Options:
-s, --status print infos about the CPU speed and temperature
-f, --freqs print a list of available frequencies (2.6.X only).
-d, --dump dump infos about available interface if any
-h, --help display this help and exit
-v, --version output version information and exit

Report bugs to <gabriele_giorgetti@tin.it>.
[root@localhost cpuspeedy-0.4.1]# cpuspeedy --status
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/cpuspeedy", line 306, in ?
main()
File "/usr/sbin/cpuspeedy", line 225, in main
sys.stdout.write (PACKAGE+": "+MSG["MSG_CPU_SPEED"]+" "\
File "/usr/sbin/cpuspeedy", line 129, in SPEED_PERCENT
return str("%d%%" % ((fmin * 100) / fmax))
ZeroDivisionError: integer division or modulo by zero
[root@localhost cpuspeedy-0.4.1]#

Then this error:

[root@localhost cpuspeedy-0.4.1]# cpuspeedy -f
cpuspeedy: the frequencies list is not available.
[root@localhost cpuspeedy-0.4.1]#

personally I'd recommend cpufreq, since it has rules that will change the freq of your cpu as there is need. Cpuspeedy seems to just have settings you set.

I haven't been able to use cpufreq. I downloaded and installed. For some reason it doesnt' seem to work.

[root@localhost michael]# cpufreqd -D
libsys_init(): /proc/acpi/: No such file or directory
load_libraries(): cannot initizalize PM plugin.
Cannot open shared libraries.
Exiting.

Does anyone know how I can get either Cpufreq or Cpuspeedy to work properly?

An ACPI enabled kernel. This is going to require a kernel rebuild.
