Just confirming that I have managed to get Linux to boot 2 XPs, one in SATA and one in ATA and so your desire of booting Win98 on Seagate and XP on Western Digital should work satisfactorily.

My initial failure was the installed SATA XP has disk(0) in boot.ini even in Linux it was reported as hd2. Thus the SATA XP always went to ATA for information to boot.

I couldn't amend the boot.ini because the current Linux can't write NTFS partition yet but Mr. Grub saves me again.

I simply map (hd2) to (hd0) and fool the SATA XP in believing it was in the first disk instead of the third disk and got it booted successfully.

Conclusion : Two Windows on separate hard disks - no problem in LInux. I have already mentioned to you that there are literature showing how one can hide one Window from another during booting if the two are inside the same hard drive. This message was written with the SATA XP booted by Linux's Suse.

thats usually what i do to make windows happy. i just add the map commands to the bootloader (e.g. my XP's map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0)

iXneonXi,

Just for the hell of it I dug out another backup copy of the same XP and inserted into the machine. Now the 16 Linux can boot 3 XP. I have to change the desktop background and the screen saver in each XP to tell they are indeed different when booted.
