Connecting through router to broadband I currently have WinXP installed on one of my hard drives and I'm in the process of installing Red Hat 9 on my second drive - I had it installed once, but misunderstood the booting process with BootMagic and PartitionMagic, so lost access. In any case when I was able to boot into it, I wasn't able to get connected to the internet. I am totally a newbie when it comes to Red Hat and Linux, but I'm comfortable with learning new things.
I currently have a 10/100 TX Ethernet card -Linksys- which RedHat was able to recognize and this is connected to a router which is subsequently connected to my cable modem. I 'm using DHCP. I've come up with some possible solutions:
1. ping the router with linux (how does one get to the command line from the GUI?)
2. install the router onto the 2nd drive (how is this done in linux?)
3. and....?
If anyone would like to tell me whether I'm way off base or there might be something else to try, let me know.
Thanks much. |
