Transparent menus in KDE
I am running Knoppix 3.4 on my laptop. Yesterday, I used Synaptic (a GUI for apt-get) to update KDE. Ever since then, whenever I open the start menu or right click on anything the menus are inverted colors of what is behind it. Is there anyway I can either make the menus a solid color or transparent? Also, this only happens when I am not logged in as root.

Go to the Control Center. (Start->Settings->Control Center)
Go to "Appearance and themes"->"style".
Go to "effects".

To turn off translucency:
Set "Menu effect" to "disable"

To fix translucency:
Try different values for "menu translucency type".

Actually, there is still a problem. Now when I select any icon they become the inverted color. Now, this only happens under root. How can I stop this?

Can't help you. I've got it here, and I can't get rid of it either.

Thankfully, it's just on the desktop. Konq works fine.

I'll look into it a bit more, but it doesn't look promising.

If you can't find anything, it's cool. Thanks for helping me.

Why in heavens name are you running X under root? Talk about SECURITY ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEVER RUN X AS ROOT!

For that matter, never login as root, but I digress.

Use su, sudo, etc.

Please.
