Slow Redhat Download speeds through Windows Gateway
Hi,

I have an ADSL connection via a modem which i connect to my Windows XP machine.
My normal download speed is 50-70Kb/s.

I've got my redhat machine on a crossover cable to the windows machine, and i am sharing the internet connection.

However, on the redhat machine i only get 8-10kb/s.

I've made sure nothing else is downloading etc, and at the same time as downloading something at 8kb on the Redhat system i can download stuff on the windows at 50kbs (this was just a test- i only did this after i could only get 10kbs).

This is the config:

Windows IP: 192.0.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Redhat ETH0 config:

Address: 192.0.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.0.0.1

I've got Internet sharing optioned in my XP machine under the ADSL connection.

Thanks

how do you have Redhat setup to share the internet thru windows?

you might want to think about reversing it and using iptables thru the redhat box and then have it go to the windows machine.

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...N-Server-HOWTO

www.tldp.org has other guides for iptables if you want to go that route.

IT could be something to do with how windows shares the connection.
