Access Local IP from Net
Hi,

I've got a small network, with the internet coming into my Windows machine via my ADSL modem.

I've got Redhat running on a machine in the network and i want to run a website of it.

How do get it so that when i go to my IP (81.7.16.29) it doesn't give a Page Cannot be Displayed, it gives the page off of the Linx machine.

The Local IP address of the Linux machine is 192.0.0.2 and if i put that in my browser on the Windows machine, i get the webpage fine.

Thanks

You will need to configure your firewall to forward traffic on port 80 (standard http port) to the machine where your web server is running. If you are using a router, you likely have one or more menus/screens in the router firmware to allow you to do this; if you are using another machine to perform the routing, you will need to configure whatever firewall/router software you are using on that machine to perform the forwarding (I recommend NAT32 for Windoze machines, BTW). Under Linux, you probably want to spend some time understanding the iptables command, which handles these chores.

Hope this helps.

Correct me if I am wrong, but 192.0.0.2 is not a private address. You might want to change that.

Code:
Private Address Space

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the
following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:

     10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
     172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
     192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)
