Setting up secure shell server
I would like to setup a secure shell server. I'm running Knoppix 3.4 (the 2.4.24 kernel). I would perfer to have a guest acount where you don't need a password and have very restricted access (just reading and writting of their files). On top of that, I would like to have an couple administrator accounts that have almost full control. Finally, I would like to be able to access this server through windows. I need a server program to run still. If anyone has a tutorial/advise it would be greatly appreciated.

for the gues accont look at chroot. You can chroot a user into only their home directory. You need to do some setup though so that they can do things like ls and such.

As for remote access, nothing beats ssh. ssh is the best way to manage any linux machine remotely.

Here's a link to a HOWTO on setting up ssh on Linux with a chroot jail:
http://deepx.homelinux.net/downloads...hroot_ssh.html

For accessing ssh from a windows box, I generally use SecureCRT at work, but I don't know if there is a free version of that.
PuTTY is a good free ssh/telnet client:

Thanks all of you for your help. I've got an SSH server up and running! I just have two questions. My computer is networked through a router. And, I connect to the DHCP of the router. Everytime the router is reset, I get a new IP. Is there a way I can set "ListenAddress" to the localhost or something? Also, what is the difference between SecureCRT and Putty? Right now Putty works fine. Thanks again.

I like putty because it is small, and quick.
