mandrakemove
I just booted up into mandrakemove wow that is so strange after using windows all these years. It will take some playing with. I got on-line and set my home page all good then I realized that I had no anti-virus (agv) nor my firewall (ZA) set up. How do I set them up ( a link would be fine) and can I import all my bookmarks?
My browser is Opera 7.23 and I'd like to use that instead of the mandrake browser, is that possible?

You generally dont need anti-virus because there are vew few virii written for Linux. You cant use ZA as that's a windows program; Mandrake sets up a firewall using Shorewall, I think.
Import bookmarks from where?
All this is moot if you are just booting from the MandrakeMove CD; the things you speak of are only practical for a permanent installation.

Yep, while using a live Linux CD like Mandrake Move you can't do installs anyway, because there is no place to install them to; you're running off of a CD, remember? And when you use it again, you'll see that the homepage you set up is gone, too; every time you use the live CD you start fresh. It's just for experimenting with, after all.

In general terms, you don't need to worry about viruses with Linux; since you will be logged in as a user when you use it, there is no way to download or install a virus into your system. If you are logged in as root, however, you have to watch out......

That's a little bit of an overstatement, however is it's still mainly valid. The real beauty of linux comes in with its user system. Unlike Windows XP where nothing practical can get done without using administrator accounts, linux's user accounts are adequate for everything, especially when paired with a program like sudo. In order for a virus to actually destroy your system, it would need root acess. Your own personal data on the other hand, may not be so lucky if some script kiddie feels so inclined. So still take your regular common sense security precautions, (Not opening funny extentions, (Unless you've sandboxed, jailed, or chrooted it), watching for wierd behaviour etc. ) and ask people if behavior is normal.
