your most compatible cards currently are the ones based off the cisco chipset or the Orinoco, I personally perfer the Orinoco. If you happen to have a laptop with a intel pro wireless card (centrino laptop) check out ipw2100 and ipw2200.sourceforge.net. Those are the linux native drivers for the intel pro wireless cards. They are both coming along nicely.

Unless you have no other choice, why do you want to connect a desktop machine to a wireless network? Wire that baby up, and communicate at 100 Mbps without the nearly 40% overhead wireless carries.

Now, if you've got a laptop to carry around and move all over, that's where wireless is the bee's knees

FWIW: I'd personally pick Orinoco too...

Reason being is that I'm using an extremely LARGE closet as my computer room...Has no cable or power outlets and it wouldn't be too cool to have about 4 cords running under my door lol...
