I am trying to do a network installation on a Compaq Evo510USDT. It does not have a CD-ROM or a Diskette Drive, but is connected to other systems via a network, and can access their resources.
I have read a couple of docs, regarding nw installation, however, as i am not too familiar with Linux, dont want ot go in for the installation and end up losing data on other systems.

Please help!!

I get the feeling you're fairly green when it comes to computer experience. You don't want to do any sort of OS installation on a machine you don't want to lose information on unless you REALLY know what's going on with partitions, what an MBR is, whether you have to worry about the 1024 cylinder boot limit etc.

If you're currently working on a machine that has network access, but no CD or Floppy drives, and you have valuable data and/or want to continue to use said machine to access the network, I would suggest not installing linux on it.

Find or build an old box with a floppy drive, hard drive with no valuable data and an ethernet card, download the linux net installation floppy images, and start from there.

When i said that i was not familiar with Linux, i ment that i have never done nw installation...thankx anyways!!!

A debian netinstall disk will go a long way here. Works like a charm.
