thank you guys, ok, first of all I don't have the link to the kernel source for suse 9.1 , I tried to look for it but I didnt find it.
Once I will find and burn it in a CD, how can I copy it to your /usr/src directory and then uncompress? How do I have to open the Kernel?
How is it possible that in the Suse 9.1 version that I have installed, there wasn't the surce included? Ok, maybe is a silly question, but in order for linux to run, doesn't it need the kernel? So shouldn't be already inside the OS somewhere?
If not, I need to know where to find it and the method to compress/decompress it, and how should I copy it to the /usr/src directory ... I'm just a beginner, I need instructions step by step, thanks a lot!

ok I'm embarassed, I don't even know where to find the version of my kernel. I have SuSe 9.1 and I've opened YaST but I can't figure out where I can see the basic infos of my Linux such as the version of the Kernel.
By the way, I did a little step, I've downloaded this version of the kernel source, 2.6 here http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-10448.html I read somewhere that I have the 2.6 . So, I've saved it in the USB pen and opened it in Linux, which appears with this name : patch-2.6.9-rc3 ; I've opened it in Konqueror and it looks like a source code.
Am I in the right path? I tried to copy this file in /usr/src but I got an error message (I tried to do transport it with the mouse)
Am I doing anything correct here?....
thanks!

by the way, I also have no sounds... I've opened some mp3 with X multimedia, I see the music playing but I can't listen to it. Any ideas?

Well, what you downloaded was just a patch. Always, unless your distro provides another way, go straight to the source (pardon the pun) at kernel.org.

To find out your kernel version, open a terminal window, and type in uname -a.

Download that version, and yes, extract it /usr/src.

As for sounds, etc. Start a new thread.

Number, this is getting complicated... have you read this thread?
Lynch and I have told you to post what you see executing "uname -r"
This way I'll give you the link to download the kernel-source preciselly to your current kernel.

Sound and whatever ADSL problem you're getting could be solved playing with Yast and let it autodetecting. If you're really newbie, it would be nice to start a new thread about that.

You mean, plug the modem (usb) and run Yast in order to autodetect it?
I tried it and it doesn't work
