suse 9.1 live eval cd
just waited ages on the suse live4 evaluation cd and it dosent work, im getting the following error while it is booting:

..........autorun done

k:compressed image found at block 0
k:incompatible write(-28!32678) 65536000
error
cannot open root device "null" or unknown block (8,5)
appent a correct "root:" boot option
panic VFS:unable to mount root fs on unknown block (8,5)

I dont understand any of this at all.

Failing an answer to this can anyone recommend me a linux distro that dosent require a degree in programming?

thanks

Hello mrburmann

Since I have no programing skills, perhaps I can help.
The Knoppix live CD is very popular. I have used it but issues seem to plague me in recognizing printers.
I have used Slax Live for emergencies, but same printer problem.
I have also installed Mandrake on my hard drive with sucess and all hardware seemed to be recognized.

I prefer Slax to Knoppix as it is a smaller download and updated more frequently.

You can get Slax Here

Knoppix Here

Mandrake Here

BTW, I had trouble with a Suse Live CD about a year or so ago.....never did run on any of my computers, but the above did.

The message above indicates the loading process cannot read your CD, perhaps the media is damaged.
Sometimes that happen when you are overclocking your PC, is that your case?
One more guess would be disabling APM, it works for me...

boot with the options (I don't know what suse's boot is like, though chances are it says boot: And then you can type linux or suse)
noapm, ide=nodma. That can help sometimes.
