Unhappy Yawn. New knoppix-can't install w/ grub
first of all i know people like whiteskin, lynch and saikee will be fine helping me here, so guys please read up.

OK i'm using knoppix 3.6 and i booted it up into kde with the knoppix26 and linux26 so i could use the 2.6 kernel. i dont think that has anything to do with it i just wanted to state that.

well i used the commands knoppix-installer, knx2hd, & knoppix-installer-latest-web and they seem to all be the same programs. its going by like a lightning bolt. it just asked me to fill things out and i selected what i want (nice gui installer though lacks mepis's power). So then i got to the install bootloader point and i was disappointed very much. I want grub but it was going to install lilo. It asked me where i want it and i know i could just install it to the first sector of the partition but i wanted instead to install grub to the mbr. It gave no choice just said whether i want it in mbr or partition, but it was going to be lilo. is there a way i can install knoppix 3.6 with the 2.6 kernel and have grub as my bootloader. it really bites.

could somebody direct me how i could easily install knoppix using 2.6 with grub?

You could just install using lilo, then when you reboot, apt-get install grub, and then install grub manually. (It's not hard in the least)

ty for quick reply whiteskin.
i was considering that and its an easy enough way i got grub down, you think its the best bet i want debian up and running by friday.
all i really have to know is when i install grub from knoppix it will set it up with knoppix entrees. i have my old menu.lst so i can put xp back into it and i can also add the wonderful hide/unhide to swap into my 98.
just looking for ideas buts that is an easily accomplishable idea. and lol the funny thing is i used knoppix to put grub on my system. it didnt add menu entree tho it just installed grub .95 unconfigured so i can get into in text mode. right now i acess my xp from a grub boot floppy (thanx saikee i knew it would come in handy)

a little update i think its best to just install lilo with knoppix to knoppix's partition. Then set it to default to knoppix and instantly boot. Then i have grub installed in the mbr of my second hdd so i can boot to grub. what i havent found is how to add entries to grub that on my mbr its just command line and not menu interface with selections. i know how to write a configfile but i cant get my grub into running menu interface. anyone know how to set up my grub like it does when you have it preinstalled by a installer.
