SuSE 9.1 difficulties
Last night, on my own, I managed to install SuSE on a laptop. This is my first linux computer (YAY).

So, after a bit of sleep, I decided to try and install some things on the computer. Unfortunately, SuSE 9.1 seems to ship without make or GCC, making getting programs a challenge. All it seems to have is RPMs. Any help for getting GCC and make on my laptop?

no way, of course Suse has gcc and make.

Are you using Suse Personal version?

There must be an RPM in YAST2 of gcc/make. Look for development tools.

Yes, using Personal Version.

Also, I have all the development RPMs in YaST selected. And there is no Make/GCC

Well, surf the web and download the rpms needed.
I use http://rpm.pbone.net

After getting files, as root just execute
Quote:
rpm -ivh *.i586.rpm

You should set up the YaST2 source of installation so you can get the Pro packages as well. There is an easy guide to this procedure at usalug
gcc is usually one of the base packages.

Many thanks, I owe that
