Web Server/FTP/DNS/HTTP
Ok I currently have an HP NetServer specs are:

PIII processor
2GB Ram
4 18.2 GB HP SCSI drives
2. 32.8 GB HP SCSI
(not in a RAID config)

Anyway it is currently running Red Hat 9 and we have told it to run as a Server on install so it has a lot of stuff for it to run as one but my question is what Programs would be best to use on it I have gotten a lot of response from another board to use Apache but when installing I keep running into the same error of being able to start it . IT wont start Also after I get it installed and configured properly I would like to know what to do from there so that people can see it online. Anyway thanks in advance for any and all help

actually you should be starting /etc/init.d/apache start -.-;;

If you still get error messages give us what it says exactly after that init.d/apache(might be apache2) start. At that point its most likely a config problem.

Maybe the error is spelled out in the text you have...

Quote:
Syntax error on line 564 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Check that line for a syntax error in a end of line comment and get back with us.

As for other programs:
Web Language - PHP
FTP - ProFTP
DNS - Bind9
Database - MySQL or Postgres
Mail - Postfix (although lots of people seem to like qmail)
Firewall - IPTables (you can try out shorewall package for help writing rules)

Other useful tools:
rsync
Samba
cups

That's the base of my servers here at least.
