Exclamation How to Install Fedora2 from Hard Disk?
Hi

I recently downloaded Fedora Core 2 ISO images, four in number. The ISO images are all free from error as I have checked them using MD5. Please help me to install the FC2 from these images. Currently I am running Win XP and have made space of about 5GB for Linux.
Earlier I wrote these ISO images on cds using Nero's ISO image creating function. But installation process aborts in mid way, when it comes to CD2. That is why I am seeking help for installing from my HDD. If you could tell me the reason of installation failure from CDs it will be enlightening.

Exact procedure steps(HDD installation) will be of great help.

Regards

Arun Kumar

When you said the installation abort mid way what excactly was the trouble. Did you lose the communication with Fedora?

One of the possible cause is Fedora may not have picked up the right keyboard or mouse for you, especially if you are using the USB type. The problem could resolve itself if you have the traditional PS2 mouse and keyboard.

It is good strategy to try a few distros. Users don't seem to have much complaint against Knoppix.

You should allow a 5Gb per distro.

Ubuntu is a nice, up and coming linux that is recieving a lot of press, and from what I've seen, deservedly so. It's a fast, debian based distro. The installer is text based, however, it's based on the new debian installer which to me is very straight forward.

Yes you rightly pointed thing about the mouse ... During installation of FC2 the mouse did not initialise. So I have to proceed using keyboard that was some work!.
About installation failure from cd ... I do not know at what point in cd2 the installtion failed or which package was being installed at that time.
And the procedure to install from HDD if you could explain ... will help me ....

I have CD failed to install too, especially with a CD burned from a different CD writer. The same CD may work on another PC though.

Having installed over 30 systems I haven't attempted to install from HDD myself as the CD route seems OK if I give it a few more attempts.

I may be wrong but this appears to be a special area. Quantian site has a writeup on this method as they supply a distro bigger than a CD can hold.
