XFCE4 and desktop launcher
i have just decided to try XFCE4 and it appears to be quite snappy ...
however is it possible to to put the program launchers on the desktop like in Gnome or only in the panel?

I don't think that XFCE has icons. That said, you might want to look into iDesk.
