Linux with DirecPC
Hey.

Currently running my DirecPC dish modem off of a really old Compaq box [P166, 128MB PC100, 5GB, WinXP Pro] and I'm interesting in migrating to Linux.

I've already seen this guide from LinuxVoodoo, but I wanted to check here and see if anyone had experience or pointers for this, or a better resource.

I was hoping that I might even find a distro especially for running and ISC'ing a Dish modem, but I haven't found anything yet.

So, if anyone has done this before or anything, can I get some advice?

I haven't seen someone running a dish in quite a while, so I wouldn't have kept up on the updates. The problems seems to be that the driver in that guide is pretty kernel specific. You need to find out if there is support in more modern kernels (best to be in the 2.6 series)

I'm in the process of torrenting Gentoo, so I plan on playing around with it and seeing how it turns out.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any expertise in the field first.

There's a newer version of the driver, which may help you. http://direcpc.sourceforge.net/

I'm a linux newb, so should I go for the pre-compiled 1.1.4c code, or try and compile the new 1.1.5 release?
