Did you restart all your network services. Not just SSHD. Sometimes you need to completely restart all network services for things in the sshd_config file to take place. Restart Xinetd and network.

Are you running the same SSH client when connecting from both sides? Is it the same version of the client? Are they configured the same? Are you connecting with SSH protocol 1 or 2?

Does the connection just kill itself after you type in the username or does it just sit there?

It just sits there...I'm using the same software to connect from inside the network as outside, but when I'm inside...I type the user name and it hangs...no password prompt appears.

I am at a loss. I saw some posts that said it could possibly be a Reverse DNS issue. Others say that you should upgrade to the latest version of OpenSSH. I would do this either way because 3.6 had a lot of vulnerabilities. Try upgrading and see what happens. Try using a different client. What client are you using? I know that Putty released a new version not too long ago to fix some issues it had.

Trying running SSHD in debug mode or check your server logs to see if they are showing anything.

Ok, I've come to the conclusion my firewall isn't configured right.

I can't even access the webserver on the same machine from the internal network, yet if I attempt to access it from outside the network it works AARGH!!

I got to get this working!

ipfw ... if I can find a proxy I can ssh through to my box, I'll copy and paste the output.

EDIT: On second thought, that would defeat the purpose of ssh...aargh...if I could just remote desktop to my other pc and back here this would be so much simpler...but no, I don't have it setup for that

Ok, I got the ipfw rules.

Code:
# ipfw show
00050 732928 456908524 divert 8668 ip from any to any via rl0
00100 276 13800 allow ip from any to any via lo0
00200 0 0 deny ip from any to 127.0.0.0/8
00300 0 0 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any
65000 1433788 911946761 allow ip from any to any
65535 2 419 deny ip from any to any
FYI

rl0 is the NIC that connects to the internet.
vr0 is the internal NIC on 192.168.0.1
