Has anyone downloaded and installed the Mandrake Linux version 7.01? Anyway, I downloaded the HUGE 650 meg burnable .iso file. I made the disc and installed the OS. It worked really good and was actually a less painless install than Win 98. But, I decided that I don't have enough HD space right now to play with Linux and I want to get rid of it.

I can't figure out how to uninstall it. Does anyone know how? I could just delete the partitions, but I tried that and the only problem with that is that it installs a bootloader, and repartitioning the drive did not get rid of it. Thanks in advance.

Check out the version at www.linux-mandrake.com/en/

You did everything right (if you call uninstalling right ), but you left out one step.

After it's all gone, you can clear away the boot loader by issuing "fdisk /mbr" from a dos prompt. You'll have to boot off a w9x boot disk to do so, but then you should be back up and crashing away in no time

See ya back in Linux soon!!!

Great, thanks alot. That did the trick. When I did fdisk/? before, it didn't show that as being an option. I plan on reinstalling Linux again later when I have the HD space to spare. I would have kept it if I could have made Windows recognize the drive when it had Linux partitions.

fdisk /mbr is an "undocumented feature"...

Oh, and Windows won't be able to see your Linux partitions. It doesn't understand the ext2 filesystem, which is what Linux uses. It can only see FAT and FAT32.

Linux, on the other hand, can see FAT, FAT32, NTFS, HPFS, etc.

You can see linux partitions in windows 98 if you use a windows explorer like program called "EXT2explore" or something like that. i remember hearing about the day i had linux installed.
