Getting "LI" can mean 2 things (well, 2 things come to the top of my head, anyway.)
1. Your Linux partition is beyond cylinder 1024 on your hard drive. Linux has a limit, it can't be any farther down on your drive. I don't remember exactly, but I think it's equivalent to the first 4 GB on your drive. Don't take my word for that, though.
2. You removed Linux, but not LILO, in which case, there's nothing for LILO to boot, so it just sits there. This can be fixed by booting off your windows boot disk and then issuing the comand 'fdisk /mbr' (without the quotes.), which will rewrite the master boot record and kill LILO.
If you deleted the Linux partition, I think #2 applies to you.
