OK I just recently had Cable Modem installed. I purchased a Static IP for obvious reasons. (FTP Serving and Web Hosting. Can you say Geocities?) OK enough of that. I installed LINUX Redhat 6. It asked if I wanted to setup LAN and I did with the proper Cable Modem settings. static IP, Gateway, DNS, Domain, etc. When LINUX is finally installed, I go into the network configuration tool to make sure that all my setting that I entered during installation are correct. They are, so I open Netscrape and type in a web addy. www.helponthe.net...sure why not?! Well nothing happens. OK well maybe something happens. The little browser icon in the upper right hand corner shows that it is processing. The lights on the cable modem blinks every so often, but no data comes through and after a few minutes of this it comes up with an error box that tells me it can't open the site. What am I doing wrong? OR do you need mor info?

Can you ping any IP addresses or domain names?

First, try opening an Xterm/Eterm/whatever and pinging www.helponthe.net to see if you get name resolution. If not, try pinging 207.174.228.117 and look for responses. If so, your DNS server settings are incorrect.

If still no response, double check your gateway.
