Solved: Unreal Tournament in Linux Performance Problems
Hi,

This post might be in the wrong section, but I'm not sure where to put it, and 'Linux' seems more fitting. I have a WinXP/Fedora 2 dualboot, and I'd like to try to get Unreal Tournament running in Fedora (UT:GOTY if it matters). As far as I know, there's two ways to do it:
  • Through"'Emulation" with wine
  • Through a native linux port from a company called loki games

both of these methods work to install and play the game, but it is so slow it's not even worth it. I figured it should at least be close to how it runs on WinXP (full resolution, high detail) but I can only make it playable in linux at the lowest possible resolution with no details, and even then it's choppy (both audio and video). It doesn't seem like either method of installing the game make it run better either, they are equally slow. I've also noticed the same problem for the original Unreal. Is there something I can do to make this run better?

Matt

That is what he wants to know. ATI and Nvidia are the two major video card manufacturers. Are you running the Nvidia Linux Video drivers.

Well its a good thing you are running a nvidia card, if it was a ati card I'd of told you that you were out of luck for running at anything above minimum. (Ati support in linux is a ughuuU~)

if you could also do a glxinfo | grep rendering in your console as well. if you do a glxinfo and just want to print out the first 15 or so lines that would be great to.

server glx version string: 1.3
server glx extensions:
    GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
    GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
    GLX_ARB_multisample
client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
client glx version string: 1.3
client glx extensions:
    GLX_ARB_get_proc_address, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info,
    GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_SGI_video_sync,
    GLX_NV_swap_group, GLX_NV_video_out, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer,
    GLX_SGI_swap_control, GLX_NV_float_buffer
GLX extensions:
    GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
    GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
